I’m going to the Netherlands…

To a little town called Bergen in the province of North Holland in the Netherlands, where they cherish fine arts, music, history, architecture and most importantly, classic cars, especially those made by the Auto Union (what Audi was called before Volkswagen bought them).

In this little town, there lies a museum called the Het Auto-Union Museum where they display classics dating back to the early 1900s.

The entrance to the building looks like you’re walking into a boutique rather than a gear head’s dream, and inside resembles a lavishly decorated shopping center with cars parked randomly on a clean, white floor surrounded by 3-stories of old-time banners. 

Anyway, long story short (too late), this Audi (Ur)Quattro is one of the museum’s vehicles (which also include boats, motorbikes, and race cars) and is one of Audi’s most ground breaking cars. 

The Quattro set the tone and design direction for all Audis to follow, and for that alone I am grateful.

So before I die, I am going to Bergen, North Holland, the Netherlands to personally shake the hand of Henk Geerts, the man who founded the museum back in 1977 and literally restored and rebuilt their inventory from the ground up.
